This morning, on the Bender Forum, my friend and second cousin, Louise Digennaro wrote a posting that included the following poem. Louise’s Mother, Rachel Schlabach went to Heaven a week after Daddy, and for all of us who are missing loved ones this morning, I know this poem will strike a responsive chord.
from Streams in the Desert (Author Unknown)
If you have gone a little way ahead of me, call back-
‘Twill cheer my heart and help my feet along the stony track;
And if, perchance, Faith’s light is dim, because the oil is low,
Your call will guide my lagging course as wearily I go.
Call back, and tell me that He went with you into the storm;
Call back, and say He kept you when the forest’s roots were torn;
That, when the heavens thunder and the earthquake shook the hill,
He bore you up and held you where the very air was still.
Oh friend, call back and tell me for I cannot see your face;
They say it glows with triumph, and your feet bound in the race;
But there are mists between us and my spirit eyes are dim,
And I cannot see the glory, though I long for word of Him.
But if you’ll say He heard you when your prayer was but a cry,
And if you’ll say He saw you through the night’s sin-darkened sky-
If you have gone a little way ahead, oh friend, call back-
‘Twill cheer my heart and help my feet along the stormy track.
Ummmm. That is such a good one. It just wants to pull sobs from deep within me. Thanks for posting it.
Thats such a comforting poem. I love your music. I especially liked the song that says “There waits for me a glad tomorrow, Where gates of pearl swing open wide …” Zion’s Hill I believe is the title. I find myself humming it during the day. Thanks for your comment on my site. I answered it by a comment on my site.
Katie & I have a daughter safe in His arms. Angela died of cancer in 1979 at age 19 months. The first I remember hearing that song was at my cousin, Paul Yoder’s funeral about 57 years ago. He was hit by a car while walking home from school. I actually found his obitruary on the internet.
We went to Gloria Yutzy’s wedding last evening. She is Daniel’s 2nd cousin, Eli Yutzy’s, daughter. Gloria worked in our bakery for about 3 years. Eli and Mary Yutzy moved here from Bloomfield, Iowa about 20 or so years ago. All three of Eli’s girl’s have worked for us. Katie got married last December. Julie has a boyfriend. She lives in the east or south somewhere. I think North or South Carolina.
Very touching poem.
