For Gertrude. . .

The other day, I passed the place you always liked to go.

And I picked up the phone because I thought you’d want to know.

But I forgot you weren’t there.  I miss you all these days.

When I’m reminded of your smile and the funny things you’d say.

I miss you most at Christmas.  You were like a little kid.

You always loved a good surprise, and now I must admit

That I long more for Heaven, than I ever did before.

You give me one more reason, and each day I want it more.

Knowing we can spend a lifetime, reminiscing on the past.

Knowing I will see your face again, where tender moments last.

It makes me want to go there, knowing I won’t be alone.

Knowing you’ll be there, makes it easy to go Home.

  1. Wow. That is really beautiful. I don’t know what happened…or who Gertrude is, but I can tell that you loved her. I saw that you came by my site. I have read a couple of your posts and will pray for you and your family. It seems like you all have a lot going on right now….just keep breathing and praying and know that God knows what He is doing…and that He loves you. From reading your site, I am pretty sure that you already know that…but just incase. Have a great weekend!

  2. Oh, by-the-way, I love your Cardinals! Those are my family’s favorite birds. We call the boy ones “Charlie birds” (My grandpa Charlie LOVED them) and the girl ones “Amy birds” (My grandma Amy LOVED them too). We say that it is them keeping watch over us. (They have both passed away….a long time ago). Anyway, I’m not sure why I shared that with you….just thought I would.

  3. Reading this, Mary Ann, it just hit me how different Christmas will be at your house … with both Gertrude and Lem missing.  My heart hurts for you!  I love you.

  4. Thanks for reminding us of that pleasant, smiling personality that graced you home for so many years.  She really was a gem and I’m sure she is shining brighter than ever now.

  5. ….the jingle bells on her shoes….
