First day of School, 2006 fence row

It’s the first day of school.
Along the fence row, my roses are bravely blooming and behind them, the Crepe Myrtle is showing off.
How did this summer pass so swiftly?
Did I get anything important done this summer???

First day of School, 2006

Rachel isn’t really ready for school to start, but she had a great summer.
I am quite sure that no other child of ours
did so much,
traveled so many miles
or had so much fun
as she did this summer.

First day of School, 2006 waiting for the bus

Against the almost autumn eastern sky, she awaits the big yellow beast that is due any minute.
Ah, my Rachel-girl.  As quickly as the summer has flown by, it seems as if your life is slipping by with a speed that almost takes my breath away.  Before I know it, you will be all grown up.  I used to complain that I was “running out of baby” . . .   Today I lament that I am running out of TIME.

  1. Dear Friend BEG,I can relate to your feelings and clearly recall the first days of school each year with me here alone. I had  mixed feelings of being lonely but yet rather enjoying the peace and quiet. The fall weather brings with it a melancholy feeling don’t you think? Your pictures are stunning. The flowers so beautiful but rivaled by your Rachel Girl. Great posting expressing the feelings of many of us!

  2. That picture of Rachel is sooo good!  And, yes, that girl truly does have a zest for living.  T’will keep you young keepin’ up or age you tryin’.  LOL.  Love you.  Time never stretches quite far enough, does it?

  3. Your roses are SO beautiful!! And so is your baby girl.

  4. Lovely flowers, and lovely daughter.  Bless you.

  5. Yes that is one of my flowers – from earlier this summer.
I showed your pretty pictures to Cerwin earlier this evening.  The fence and flowers are so beautiful.

  6. Mary I loved your post, as always.  Holly tells me plans have changed some for this week-end.  We are going to do something special with her tomorrow evening.  I do feel a twing of guilt for not being able to take her out.  We are to be in Cheasapeake this week-end.  Mark is to be installed as their overseer.
I appreciate the friendship Rachael, Holly, Carmen and Maria have.  The picture of Rachael out waiting on the school bus really tugs at my heart.

  7. Nice posting and great pictures! Hope Rachel got along okay on this first day of school. I hope she likes her mailbox, too! Maybe she will have to help the “short” ones around her get the things out of their mailboxes. Take time to smell the “roses”! Love you and yours. Loretta

  8. ahhh the memories come flooding back.  I can see myself contemplating the first day of school.  Beautiful pictures.  I am sure it is bitter-sweet for you.

  9. Beautiful flowers; you have a green thumb.  Did you get anything important done this summer?  I think just being there for your certain man, your children–loving them and their friends, taking care of the ladies, being there for your mom…you’ve given so much to all of them.  Yes, I’d say you’ve gotten lots of important things done this summer!!!

  10. Hello , Nice picture’s now. God bless you all !!!!!!!!!

  11. They do grow up so fast I can hardly believe that next year my oldest will be starting highschool  and this year they are all in school  where does the time go???  Love those flowers they are gorgeous!

  12. The pictures are making me yearn for Delaware;  what’s going on here?!   We would like to visit y’all (as in-  every body in DE we haven’t seen in so long…) the second weekend in October.  Anybody home that weekend?   I’m wondering what shelter arrangements might exist for a family of 6 children + Mom & Dad.  I’ve a niece marrying some fine young fellow in Lancaster October 7, and we figure it is high time to see folks in NJ and DE too.  I’ll be off work for 2 1/2 weeks and we’ll try to make the most of it.  email  us , eh? mw.
