News from a distant land

Hey Momma,

I just returned from two weeks of torture that i don’t think i would wish on my enemies. I hate trekking. It only took me until about noon on the first day to realize why. We were climbing and climbing and i couldn’t breathe and my legs were shot and all i wanted to do was jump off a cliff so wouldn’t have to walk anymore. We climbed from 6,600 feet to 13,000 feet in the first two days. Torture. One the nepali guys looked at me and Asks “It like punishment?” I was like yeah!. I hated it. But i made it through and i took some decent pics and saw some amazing sights but i’m glad that its over. I forgot to bring the snail mail address but you don’t need to send me any thing cause i’m not going to be here in kathmandu that much more over the next 4 1/2 months. And i found an internet cafe that i can call home from and it’s not that expensive.
So i will try to call sometime before the end of the month.

. . .  Time can’t go fast enough for me.

So we are going to be here in Kathmandu for the next couple of weeks and then we go vacation. Todd Is coming at the end of the month so that’s exciting.

Well i was going to send some pics but i couldn’t get them to work so maybe next time when i have more time.  Love you and miss you everyone for that matter. Talk to ya later mom.  Love Raph

  1. Mary, thanks so much for posting that precious letter from Raph.  Makes me yearn for Holly Dear.  I’m so thankful for internet!!!!
I need to wind down soon.  I need to be at the Wedding by 8:00.   I’m having a table of drinks, snacks, fruit, easy foods for the wedding party to snack on before their nerves get the best of them.        I’m praying for Sarah Dear and Joni.

  2. wow, what an amazing experience… kathmandu…. wow.  i am glad he is safe.

  3. ahh poor boy!!   sounds like he is getting a great life experience!!

  4. So glad you had “News from a distant land”!!

  5. How wonderful to have the internet for communication! It makes even Nepal seem like it’s not that far away. I probably said this before, but the summer Jeremy was in Zambia with Teen Missions in 1997, our only communication was snail mail, which took WEEKS to get from Zambia to PA. I think we actually did get our first computer that summer, but there was no access to one where he was.

  6. RYC:  Wow Joanie getting married??!!!  Can hardly believe that Sarah has one that old (even though I know it’s true )  Oh what fond fond memories I have of her!!  If you think of it during your busy day give her a squeeze and a hello from me please!!

  7. Your son is going to appreciate the “Good Ol’ USA” and his family so much more when he gets home!

  8. Wow, what a letter from a far and distant place! Sweet to hear from him and know he is well but I know how you must miss him so much. The internet is such a blessing,a marvelous way to keep in touch. Me thinks I am snowed in here in my jolly little cottage…….snug and cozy though.

  9. Mary I’m hoping you post some of the wedding pictures!  I didn’t have much luck with mine.  Blurry.      I thought It was a beautiful wedding with a beautiful bride!
